Thank you to everyone who participated in Evensong last Sunday, November 2. This includes the choir who practiced endless hours to present such beautiful music, Deacon Diana who sang for the first time in an Evensong, those who made financial contributions to support this event, those who brought food for the reception and those who stayed to clean up afterwards.
Evensong is a rich part of Redeemer’s music program and has such great meaning for anyone who attends and especially to those who hear the name of a loved one read from the Book of Remembrance.
OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES FOR DECEMBER
Have you begun your holiday shopping? Please consider our November outreach focus as you do so and requests for our needy neighbors during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
We support Irving Cares each month by requesting two items for its Food Pantry. In November, these needs go up and Irving Cares asks that we increase our donations. Their Holiday Food List includes the following:
Peanut butter; hot and cold cereal; canned meats such as tuna, chicken, spam; canned meals such as chili, stew, Chef Boyardee products, any soups, and toilet paper. These items are part of every client order and are purchased by Irving Cares if they are not donated.
Additional items needed are personal items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, and feminine hygiene products; powdered laundry detergent; and canned vegetables such as peas, corn, green beans, carrots, leafy greens, and canned fruit.
We also will need volunteers to take these items to Irving Cares before Thanksgiving and at the end of the month. There will be signup sheet on the table in the back of the church for this purpose.
We are also participating in the Irving Police and Fire Departments’ huge Blue Christmas project. Gifts for needy teens such as sports equipment (balls of all kinds, baseball gloves and soccer shin guards and goalie gloves), beauty products (cologne, makeup and hair products, hair dryers, curling irons), and gift cards can all be put to good use and are much appreciated.
We begin to collect these Blue Christmas items in November and will continue collecting them during the first part of December. Members of the Police and Fire Departments will collect the unwrapped items and prepare them for delivery. This is a logistical effort that takes a few weeks to accomplish. Irving ISD provides the departments with the names of children who need these and other items.
Please consider supporting both of these very worthwhile projects. Place your donations in the blue bin at the back of the church. Thank you so much for your generous response.
It’s not too early to start thinking about where you stored your crèche displays after Christmas last year! Redeemer will host our display in early December again this year. Hopefully, we won’t have to worry about snow and ice. We’ll also be moving back into the church as our display site, since we learned from our abbreviated display last year that the gathering space in the Parish Hall isn’t big enough to hold it all!
The set-up & break-down schedule:
- November 16 – November 30; bring your crèches to church and store them in the back, under the pews. Please put your name on the crèche itself and any boxes or bags that it is stored in.
- Sunday, November 30, after the 10:30 service; set up tables & drape with cloths.
- Monday & Tuesday, December 1 & 2, 6:30 – 8:30; set up crèches. Everyone is welcome to help set this up, even if you don’t have a crèche to display.
- Sunday, December 7, 2:00 – 4:00 – pack up and take down.
The Display schedule:
- Friday, December 5, 1:00 – 5:00
- Friday, December 5, 6:00 – 9:00
- Saturday, December 6, 9:00 – 4:00
- Sunday, December 7, between services and noon – 2:00

Each crèche is identified by its owner and origin, so if you have a new crèche to add to our display please include a brief history (where and when you purchased it, what the circumstances were if you’d like to share).
This display has been a tradition at Redeemer since 2001. Over the years we’ve had quite a few visitors, and this year a group from Woodhaven Presbyterian already has it on their schedule. But even if we didn’t have visitors, so many in our parish look forward to this warm, spiritual display each year. We know that Advent has arrived!

THE KICK HOLIDAY BAKE SALE
The KICK Holiday Bake Sale will be on November 16th in front of the parish hall immediately following both services. This fundraiser will help send our teens on mission again this summer, and help with your holiday cravings!
We will have sweet and salty goodies, holiday themed treats and even something special for your canine friends!
And of course, a cake or two for silent auction.
