Transfiguration and the Cross by Rick Fry
Luke 9:28-36, (37-43)
Beauty and radiant light
wrapped around you like a garment.
Your glory was too dazzling to be trapped in boxes,
too self-giving to be hidden.
So you descended back down the mountain
and waded waist deep through our demon soaked world
of sickness, poverty, and shame.
And you traded the grandeur of transfiguration
for the humiliation of the cross,
so that faces of disgrace
may be transfigured into reflections of your glory.
